# Tells > Tells highlights the writing habits that make people think a chatbot wrote something, scores it from 0 to 100, and fixes the easy ones in one tap. Runs in your browser. Tells is a web tool from Clawhard Studio that checks a text, email, post or essay for the habits people associate with AI-written text: em dashes, words like "delve" and "leverage", assistant filler like "I hope this helps", the "it's not X, it's Y" frame, fake suspense lines, stiff transitions, markdown leftovers, emoji bullets, rule-of-three lists and same-length sentences. It shows each one, gives a bot-o-meter score from 0 to 100, and fixes the easy ones in one tap. It is a style checker, not an AI detector. - URL: https://tells.clawhard.com/ - Made by: [Clawhard Studio](https://clawhard.com), an AI-powered studio. Support: support@clawhard.com - API: https://tells.clawhard.com/openapi.json (JSON, no key, CORS open, rate limited) - MCP server for this tool: https://tells.clawhard.com/mcp. Agent skill: https://tells.clawhard.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json - Every Clawhard tool in one connector: https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp ## How it works 1. Open https://tells.clawhard.com and paste or type your text (or open https://tells.clawhard.com/#text=YOUR%20URL-ENCODED%20TEXT to load it directly). 2. Read the bot-o-meter score and the highlighted tells. Tap a category to focus on it. 3. Tap "Fix the easy ones" to swap or remove the mechanical tells, then rewrite the flagged ones in your own words. 4. Copy the text, or save the score card. ## Use it from an AI assistant or script - `POST https://tells.clawhard.com/api/v1/score`: Checks a piece of writing for the habits that make people think a chatbot wrote it (em dashes, words like "delve", assistant filler like "I hope this helps", "it's not X, it's Y", fake suspense, stiff transitions, markdown leftovers, emoji bullets, rule of three, same-length sentences). Returns a 0-100 bot-o-meter score, a verdict and the tells found. Style habits only. Not an AI detector and not proof of who wrote the text. - `POST https://tells.clawhard.com/api/v1/fix`: Rewrites the easy tells: swaps em dashes for commas, chatbot words for plain ones, strips assistant filler, markdown stars and emoji bullets, fixes stiff transitions. Habits that need a human rewrite ("it's not X, it's Y", fake suspense, rule of three) are listed but left alone. Returns the fixed text, the before and after score and what remains. - Prefilled link (private, recommended): `https://tells.clawhard.com/#text=` - Query form (also works): `https://tells.clawhard.com/?text=` ## Limits - It checks style habits. It cannot tell who or what wrote a text, and no tool can do that reliably. - Built for English text. Very short texts (under about 25 words) are hard to judge. - Up to 60,000 characters per text. - API: rate limited per client, 300 KB per request. ## Privacy - The website runs entirely in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, and there is no account. - Your last draft is saved only on your own device until you clear it. - The optional API and MCP tool process the text you send in memory to return a result. The text is not stored or used for anything else. - Prefilled links should use the # form (https://tells.clawhard.com/#text=...), which browsers never send to the server. ## Plans - Tells: no payment needed. Full tool in the browser. No account. ## Common questions **How do I make my writing sound less like ChatGPT?** Paste it into Tells. It highlights the habits that read as AI: em dashes, words like "delve" and "leverage", filler such as "I hope this helps", and "it's not X, it's Y" sentences. One tap fixes the mechanical ones. Then rewrite the flagged contrast and suspense lines as one plain claim, and vary your sentence lengths. **What makes text sound AI-written?** Common tells are em dashes, chatbot-favorite words (delve, tapestry, seamless, leverage), assistant filler ("Great question", "It's worth noting"), the "not just X, it's Y" frame, fake suspense ("The result?"), stiff transitions (Moreover, Furthermore), markdown stars and emoji bullets pasted from a chat window, lists of three, and sentences that are all the same length. **Is Tells an AI detector?** No. AI detectors guess who wrote something and are often wrong. Tells does not guess. It points at specific, visible habits so you can decide what to keep. A high score means the text has many habits people associate with chatbots, not that a chatbot wrote it. **Is my text uploaded or stored?** No. In the browser the analysis runs on your device and nothing is sent to a server. The optional API processes text in memory only to return a result and does not store it. **Can an AI assistant call Tells for me?** Yes. There is a public JSON API (see /openapi.json) and Tells is part of the Clawhard MCP server at https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp, with the tool tells_check_writing. Assistants can also link you to https://tells.clawhard.com/#text=... with your text prefilled. Tells has its own MCP server at https://tells.clawhard.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key, no login). Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients, or use the whole studio at https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp. **Does Tells rewrite my whole text with AI?** No. It makes small mechanical fixes (swapping an em dash for a comma, a chatbot word for a plain one, removing filler and markdown stars). It does not generate new writing, so your voice stays yours. ## More from the studio - [Clawhard Studio home](https://clawhard.com/): all tools - [Studio llms.txt](https://clawhard.com/llms.txt) and [llms-full.txt](https://clawhard.com/llms-full.txt) - [Studio MCP server](https://mcp.clawhard.com/mcp)
